Iraqi President arrives in Erbil; first-ever since holding office

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi President Latif Rashid arrived in the Kurdistan Region Capital Tuesday morning, Esta Media Network has learned.

President Rashid’s arrival was his first visit to the Region’s capital since he has been elected as President and held office.

According to information obtained by Esta, the President’s visit aims to carry out a series of meetings regarding the political situation with senior Kurdish parties as well as government officials.

The meeting will shed light on the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, while no further information is available at the current.

It’s worth mentioning that President’s unexpected visit came after he met Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani earlier on Monday.

Sudani’s cabinet took office in late October, ending more than a year of deadlock since a parliamentary election. He was backed for the post of prime minister by an alliance of Iran-aligned factions.
