SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A tripartite meeting between the three major parties in the Kurdistan Region will be held on Tuesday, a joint statement said on Sunday.

A delegation from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) led by Politburo Member Hoshiar Zebari arrived in Sulaimani city earlier on Sunday to meet with officials from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran).

The KDP delegation started its first meeting with PUK officials, including Co-leader Bafel Talabani.

Both parties released a joint statement following the meeting, saying they discussed bilateral ties and the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the region.

Both sides considered a tripartite meeting between KDP, PUK and Gorran as important and necessary for the current stage in order to defend rights of the Region’s people in Iraq, including salaries and financial entitlements.

They also agreed to make preparations for a tripartite meeting, which is expected to be held on Tuesday in the Kurdistan Region Presidency, according to the statement.

The KDP delegation is scheduled to meet Gorran officials.

Gorran Spokesman Adnan Othman said on Saturday that the KDP delegation’s visit to Sulaimani would be preparation for a tripartite meeting between the KDP, PUK and Gorran in the future.

“The parties should meet to set up a strategy … to [help] reform progress. They should solve the people’s issues,” he said in a press conference.

“We hope the tripartite meeting will be a series one and point finger on all the issues.
