Iraqi PM receives phone call from U.S. Secretary of State

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani received a phone call from U.S. Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) on Thursday said.

The call renewed the U.S. congratulations from Secretary Blinken to PM Sudani over the formation of the new Iraqi government.

Both sides laid emphasis on the importance of strengthening and developing relations between Iraq and the United States of America in various fields, according to the INA.

They also discussed mutual commitment to the strategic framework agreement between the two countries and common interests in maintaining Iraq’s security, stability, and sovereignty.

For his part, the US Secretary of State affirmed the United States keenness to work with the government and people of Iraq to increase economic opportunities, enhance Iraq’s energy independence and address the climate crisis.

Moreover, Blinken highlighted the US government’s commitment to supporting Iraq in its war against and defeating ISIS terrorists.

In the meantime, it welcomed Sudani’s call for reforms and his pledge to fight corruption.
