“There is no red line before anyone’s corruption dossier” says Iraqi PM

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani has promised the Iraqis that “there is no red line before anyone’s corruption dossier,” his office on Sunday said following a meeting with the integration commission.

Prime Minister Sudani met the Iraqi integration commission, sitting with the commission’s chief Judge Ala al-Saadi, and its senior staff, the Premier’s office said.

“There is no red line before anyone’s corruption dossier, no matter what political affiliation they have whether it’s for parties or figures,” PM Sudani said amid the meeting.

Sudani has also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the commission. In the meantime, he will present a bill to fight corruption, according to his office.

Iraq’s integration commission is an independent body within the government of Federal tasked with preventing and investigating corruption at all levels of the Iraqi government nationwide.

“We will form a team to support the commission,” PM Sudani added.

Moreover, Sudani does not want to hold the corrupts in the prison only but also seeks to enact further measures on that matter.

“Our aim is not only to hold corrupts in the prison but also to take measures to prevent corruption,” the Prime Minister continued.

Freshly elected PM Sudani has gained the confidence of the Iraqi Council of Representatives on Thursday, his appointment ended the prolonged political deadlock since last year’s October elections.

Sudani,52, who previously served as Iraq’s human rights minister as well as minister of labor and social affairs, now heads the new government.

Sudani has vowed to reform the economy, fight corruption, and improve deteriorating public services, combat poverty, and unemployment among other things.

He also promised to amend the election law within three months and hold early parliamentary elections within a year.
