SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Five fighters of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were killed by Turkey in northern Syria this week, the SDF announced on Wednesday.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) revealed that five of its fighters were killed by the Turkish army in Syria’s northern town of Ain Issa.

“The Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries are still launching daily attacks and attacks on various regions of northern and eastern Syria,” the SDF in a statement said.

Turkey deems the People’s Protection Units (YPG), the heart of the SDF, as the Syrian offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Ankara considers the PKK and YPG terrorist organizations.

Turkish forces have launched three incursions in the last five years, seizing hundreds of kilometers of border strip and pushing around 30 km (20 miles) into northern Syria.
