Senior officials in Kurdistan Region offer condolences for death of five Peshmerga

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Senior officials in Kurdistan Region offer condolences after five Peshmerga died in a deadly tragic traffic collision on Saturday in Sulaimani Province.

At approximately 1100 local time five Peshmerga died in a deadly traffic collision in the southeast of Sulaiamani province after their vehicle collided with a truck, resulting in their immediate death on Zarrayan-Darbani Xan highway.

Traffic officials immediately confirmed their identities and that they were Peshmerga.

Their hometown, Said Sadiq district of Sulaimani province announced three days of mourning for such a tragic incident.

In the meantime, President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani extended his deepest condolences, read a statement on the Region’s presidency’s official website.

“I extend my deepest condolences to their families relatives, their fellows, and the citizens of Said Sadiq. My sympathies are with you,” Barzani in the statement said.

Also, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani released a statement, saying, “I consider myself a partner of your sorrow.”

“I’m gravely saddened and concerned for the loss of five heroic Peshmerga who died on their way home in a traffic accident,” PUK President said.

“For such a big loss, I extend my deepest compassion to their families and consider myself a partner of their sorrow,” Talabani added.

“The news of losing five brothers and companions in the Peshmerga forces has sorrowed everyone from the bottom of their hearts,” Director of the Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism forces Wahab Halabajai said.
