SULAIMANI (ESTA) — At least five members of Islamic State (ISIS) were killed in air strikes by the U.S.-led Coalition forces in Saladin province, the Iraqi military said early on Wednesday.
Iraqi Security Media Cell said in a statement that a Coalition warplane in coordination with the Joint Operations Command targeted the militants in the foothill of Makhoul mountain range in Saladin on Tuesday evening.
The F-16 fighter jet launched four strikes against the militants, according to the Iraqi military.
Six other ISIS militants were killed by the Iraqi counter-terrorism forces and the Coalition forces in Makhmour district on Monday.
Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 but the militants have regrouped in the Hamrin mountain range which extends into the northern provinces – an area described by officials as a “triangle of death”.
