SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service said six members of Islamic State (ISIS) militants were killed in clashes with its forces backed by the U.S.-led Coalition forces in Makhmour.
The counter-terrorism service said in a statement late on Monday that its forces had launched a military operation against ISIS militants on the Makhmour Mountains.
Clashes erupted between the counter-terrorism forces and six ISIS militants during the operation, the statement read.
Three ISIS militants were killed in clashes with the Iraqi counter-terrorism forces, while the three others tried to escape from the area, it stated.
“the international coalition warplanes monitored them and bombed them, and they were all killed by the air strikes,” the counter-terrorism service said.
A member of the Iraqi counter-terrorism forces was also wounded during clashes with the militants, according to statement.
U.S.-led Coalition forces said in a tweet on Tuesday that the Iraqi counter-terrorism forces backed by the Coalition’s warplanes had recently conducted a joint mission in Makhmour mountains.
“Small groups of Daesh terrorists live in rugged terrain & remote desert areas, and the ISF finds them wherever they may hide,” the Coalition tweeted.
“Together, we remain committed to #DefeatDaesh,” it tweeted, using an Arabic name for ISIS.
