Iraqi court sentences three officials to 6 years in prison over corruption charges

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — An Iraqi court on Wednesday sentenced three officials to 6 years in prison over corruption charges, Iraq’s integrity commission in a statement said.    

The central anti-corruption court, without the presence of the charged officials, sentenced the deputy to the Iraqi rebuilding and housing ministry and an inspector in the same ministry, and the general director in the planning department, to six years in prison, according to the statement.

“The decision has been made in accordance with article 340 in the Iraqi penal code, they extended a construction project deadline illegally in Najaf, a city in central Iraq, to the executive company,” the integrity commission said.

“After revising the shreds of evidence, the court found out that the offenders have played negligence, therefore without their presence in the court, they have been sentenced to 6 years in prison” it added.
