SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq’s finance minister Ali Allawi has resigned on Tuesday without giving further comments, the Iraqi news agency reported, adding that the oil minister has succeeded him.

Minister Allawi has submitted his resignation amid the regular session of the minister council headed by Prime Minster Mustafa al-Kadhimi.

Following Allawi’s bid, Prime Minister Kadhimi accepted his request and assigned Iraq’s minister of oil Ihsan Abdul Jabar to continue as the acting minister.

So far no official statement has been made by either the resigned minister or any other officials from the cabinet about Allawi’s surprise quitting of his duty.
