Iraqi PM Kadhimi meets parliament speaker al-Halbousi to discuss political situation

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The state news agency on Sunday reported that Iraqi Prime minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi met with the speaker of parliament Mohammed al-Halbousi.

Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi received al-Halbousi and they discussed the issues that grasped Iraq, according to the Iraqi news agency.

“The latest political developments were discussed, it stressed Prime Minister Kadhimi’s initiative for serving the Iraqi people,” INA said regarding the content of the meeting.

It was nearly a week when Iraq went through political unrest after the standoff between the two political rivals, the Sadrist movement and the Shiite coordination framework occurred on the Baghdad streets, especially after the supporters of the Sadrist stormed the streets and parliament building in Baghdad and the coordination framework as well decided to hold a counter-protest.

The situation was quite tense, consequently, the Iraqi PM decided to launch an initiative to normalize the situation and bring parties together.

“Iraq faces serious political unrest, It has a dangerous outcome if wises cease to intervene,” said the Iraqi Prime Minister in a message on the recent situations in Baghdad.
