SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Senior member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party Hoshyar Zebari on Sunday told Muqtada al-Sadr that changing the constitution only occurs with consensus rather than personal mood.
In a response to Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr after he posted a tweet regarding the ongoing protests in Baghdad demanding the change of constitution and a fundamental change in the political system.
Member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party politburo Hoshyar Zebari in a tweet responded al-Sadr’s demands telling him, “Current Iraq’s political system and its constitution can be only changed by constitutional mechanism and consensus rather than personal mood”.
“Iraq’s current constitution was approved by more than 60 percent of the Iraqis in 2005 through a popular referendum, both authority and international community support it,” Zebari said.
“There is no room for either amending or changing the constitution except after intensive consultations and discussions” Zebari added.
