Sadr’s followers storm Iraqi streets following leakage of Nouri al-Maliki’s audio

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr’s supporters stormed the streets late on Monday following the leakage of recorded audios of his political rival Nouri al-Maliki. 

Several recorded audio has been circulated on social media recently in which Sadr’s political rival Nouri al-Maliki despise Sadr and threats to engage in battle with him. Subsequently, Sadr’s followers stormed the streets of Nasiriyah in Dhi Qar Governorate, later the rally and protests were extended to Baghdad as well.

According to the leaked audio, attributed to the head of the state of law Nouri al-Maliki has made an oath to prevent Sadr’s political project also adding that, the next phase of Iraq would-be fighting.

“Sadr’s followers raised slogans against Maliki during the rally saying, he wants to murder Muqtada al-Sadr” Iraqi Media reported.

However, Nouri al-Maliki keeps denying the originality of the audio noting that they are ‘fabricated’ and ‘baseless’.
