Deputy of premier and PUK’s president reiterate support for reformation within ‘Peshmerga’

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Jalal Talabani along with the Kurdistan Region deputy premier Qubad Talabani, reiterated their support regarding the reformation process within the Ministry of Peshmerga on Friday.

Speaking in a meeting with the newly appointed secretary-general of the Peshmerga Ministry Bakhtiar Mohammed Said. Bafel Talabani stressed that Peshmerga living conditions must be improved and demanded to intensify all efforts for the sake of general objectives which are eliminating terror, and protecting of region’s stability, and security.

Meanwhile, the Kurdistan Region deputy of Prime Minister said, despite the obstacles in front of the military reformation process, “the military reform must continue as a certain and necessary process”.

Qubad Talabani has also wished good lucks to the new secretary-general of the Ministry in order to enhance the reformation procedures inside the Peshmerga forces.

In February 2018, the ministry of Peshmerga announced a 35-point plan to make the Peshmerga a more efficient, modern, and non-partisan fighting force, which was developed in consultation with advisors from the U.S., UK, and Germany.

The Peshmerga ministry’s reforms include the unification of its units that are not under the command of the official military institution as well as training for the forces.
