Asayish detains narcotic drug band in Raparin sub-district Sulaimani

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Narcotic drug band has been detained by the security forces (Asayish) in Raparin Sub-district North West of Sulaimani province, said the directorate of Raparin’s security in a statement on Sunday.

“The security force units were able to detain   narcotic drug band in Raparin,” it said.

“The suspects consisted of Five men along with one woman”, and “an amount of narcotic drug including methamphetamine and heroin were seized as well” it added.

Drug trafficking has increasingly become more frequent in the Kurdistan Region, in particular in the border areas between the Region and Iran, the area become a hotspot even for transiting drug substances.

Authorities have warned that drug trafficking threatens to become an epidemic if anti-narcotics forces fail to curtail its rise in the Kurdistan Region.
