Kurdistan Region’s COVID-19 death toll passes 3,000: health ministry

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region’s death toll from coronavirus surged past 3,000 on Tuesday, said the ministry of health.

In a statement, the Region’s ministry of health said 21 more patients had died from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 3,036.

The health ministry further said it had also recorded 500 new cases of the novel coronavirus. It added that 135 cases were in Erbil, 164 in Sulaimani, 169 in Duhok, 14 in Halabja, 16 in Garmian and two more in Raparin.

As many as 211 other patients had recovered from the virus in the previous 24 hours, the ministry’s statement read.

The Kurdistan Region’s total number of infections reached 94,421, of which 58,316 recovered.

Separately, Iraqi ministry of health said it had registered 2,292 new cases, 35 deaths and 2,130 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

So far, Iraq has recorded 539,749 coronavirus cases, with 12,031 deaths and 469,784 recoveries, according to the Iraqi ministry.
