Metrography agency hosts first ceremony of Kamaran awards

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Metrography photo agency hosted its first annual ceremony of Kamaran awards for journalists in Sulaimani on Sunday.

Kamran Najm was an Iraqi photographer and co-founder of Metrography, the first Iraqi photo agency, he disappeared inside covering the fight between Peshmerga forces and ISIS militants in Kirkuk on June 12, 2014.

Named for photojournalist Kamaran Najm whose fate remains unknown, the Kamaran Awards were presented for the first time in 2022 by Metrography, the photojournalism agency that he co-founded.

The Kamaran commemorative awards consisted of two separate awards, which were bestowed at a ceremony on June 12, 2022.

The ceremony was attended by the president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Bafel Jalal Talabani and the Deputy of the prime minister Qubad Talabani along with the minister of culture and numerous other officials were included as well.

Metrography Agency is an independent photo agency in Iraq, founded by Kurdish photographer Kamaran Najm and American photojournalist Sebastian Meyer in 2010.
