SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iran sentenced at least 16 Kurdish political and civil activists to prison last month, a watchdog said on Friday.
In a report, Hengaw Organization for Human Rights said the activists including three women were given prison sentences of more than 27 years by Iranian judges in May.
The activists were sentenced to jail by courts in Sanandaj, Marivan, Mahabad, Urmia and Piranshahr, according to Hengaw.
The organization, which monitors human rights in Iranian Kurdistan, said in a separate report that at least 36 Kurds were detained in Iran over political and civil activities last month.
There were three women and five teachers as well as a teenager under 18 years old among the detainees, the group added.
Thirteen of them were detained by the Iranian intelligence agency, it said.
