Baghdad decided to solve shortage of medicine for cancer patients in Kurdistan: ministry

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The federal government has decided to tackle shortages of medicine and medical treatment for cancer patients in the Kurdistan Region, the Kurdish health ministry said on Thursday.

A delegation from the Region’s health ministry visited Baghdad on Monday for talks with officials at the Iraqi health ministry to solve shortages of medicine and medical equipment in Kurdistan.

The Kurdish health ministry said its delegation met with the Iraqi health minister who decided to solve the issue of medicine for cancer patients in Kurdistan.

The delegation asked the Iraqi officials to also include the Region’s cities in contracts the federal government makes to purchase medical devices, the ministry said in a statement.

The Iraqi health minister also promised to solve the issue of shortages of medicine and medical equipment in Duhok province, the statement read.

The minister also decided to send a ministerial delegation to the Kurdistan Region for training and solving issues of health sector in Kurdistan, according to the statement.
