SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Bafel Jalal Talabani met with British Ambassador to Iraq Mark Bryson-Richardson in Erbil on Thursday.

The two sides discussed the latest political, economic and security developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, Talabani’s office said in a statement.

“We have always believed in unity and harmony between all political parties because we consider it a factor to peace and stability in the region,” Talabani said.

“We should make dialogue and understanding the basis of our work so as to serve our people together,” he added.

Regarding Iraq’s political deadlock, Talabani said the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is with the solution of issues on the basis of the Iraqi constitution and the formation of a government that meets demands of all sides, the statement read.

Iraq has entered a political stalemate after the Council of Representatives failed to select a president in three sessions due to disagreements between the political parties.

Under a power-sharing system designed to avoid sectarian conflict, Iraq’s president is a Kurd, its prime minister a Shia and its parliament speaker a Sunni.
