Baghdad, Najaf airports suspend flights due to dust storm

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Baghdad and Najaf airports suspended flights on Sunday due to a dust storm that hit several provinces in Iraq.

Both airports said in separate statements that flights would return to normal when the weather conditions improved, according to the state news agency INA.

A wave of dust storm blanketed several provinces in Iraq again on Sunday.

The dust storm followed similar ones that blew over the country in the past weeks and left dozens hospitalized with respiratory problems.

Iraq is particularly vulnerable to climate change, having already witnessed record low rainfall and high temperatures in recent years.
