SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A high-level delegation from Iraq’s military arrived in Sinjar district on Thursday, according to state-owned news agency INA.

The delegation “will inspect the security forces and follow up on the security situation” in Sinjar, INA cited the Joint Operations Command as saying.

The delegation included head of the national security agency Hamid al-Shatri, army chief of staff first lieutenant general Abdulamir Yarallah and deputy head of the joint operations command first lieutenant general Abdulamir al-Shamri, INA said.

The delegation’s visit came a few days after clashes erupted between the Iraqi military and Sinjar Resistance Units (YBS) in the district.

Residents told Esta Media Network that clashes erupted between the two sides after the Iraqi military requested YBS forces to hand over its base to the army and leave.

YBS-affiliated media reported that the Iraqi military had deployed a large number of troops to the district.

There was no immediate comment from the Iraqi military.
