SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian in Tehran on Thursday.
The Iraqi minister along with National Security Advisor Qasem al-Araji arrived in Iran on Wednesday to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries, according to the foreign ministry.
“Iran is a loyal neighbor,” Hussein said in a joint press conference with Amirabdollahian in Tehran, according to Iraqi media.
“Iraq will not allow its soil to be used as a threat against neighboring counties,” he added.
The Iraqi ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement that the ministers discussed the latest political developments, Iran’s nuclear issue and Russia-Ukraine war during the meeting.
The foreign minister visit came after Iran launched 12 ballistic missiles at Erbil in March. Iran said the attack targeted Israeli “strategic center” and was retaliation for an Israeli military attack in Syria that killed Iranian military personnel.
Most of the missiles hit a villa owned by Baz Karim Barzanji, the CEO of a major domestic energy company called KAR Group.
The Kurdish officials have denied the presence of Israel’s bases in the Kurdistan Region.
