Mass grave found in Najaf, says governor’s office

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi authorities have found a mass grave believed to be of opponents of the Saddam Hussein regime in Najaf province, the governor’s office said.

In a statement, the governor’s office said on Monday that the grave was found near one of the complexes under construction in Najaf, according to Anatoly Agency.

The grave is believed to include the remains of “protesters executed by the former regime in the 1990s,” it added.

Since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, dozens of mass graves have been found by international and Iraqi experts.
