SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi counter-terrorism forces in coordination with the Kurdish forces thwarted an Islamic State (ISIS) attempt to carry out “terrorist” acts in Sulaimani during the holy month of Ramadan, a military spokesman said on Monday.
Yehia Rasool, spokesman of commander-in-chief of the armed forces, said the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) in coordination with the General Directorate of Asayish in Sulaimani thwarted the attempt by ISIS militants to carry out attacks in the city.
He further said two “suicide bombers” were detained in Kirkuk, one of them was a foreigner.
He didn’t say whether the two arrested were connected to the militant’s attempt in Sulaimani.
The Iraqi and Kurdish forces have detained dozens of ISIS suspects in the Kurdistan Region in the past months.
