SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iran said on Wednesday that it would avenge the killing of four people including two Iranian Revolutionary Guards officers in an Israeli airstrike.

On Monday, Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Israeli strikes killed two pro-Iranian militiamen and wounded six others in Damascus.

The target of the strikes was “a weapons and ammunition depot operated by Iran-backed militias near Damascus international airport”, it said.

Syrian state media said two of the four victims were civilians.

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said holding Israel accountable for such attacks “is one of the main goals of the resistance [forces] in the region”, according to Reuters.

The Guards’ website, Sepah News, identified the two slain officers as colonels Ehsan Karbalaipour and Morteza Saeidnejad, adding that Israel would “pay for this crime.”

The Observatory said Monday’s was the seventh Israeli strike on Syria this year.
