Kadhimi orders closure of unofficial border crossings in Iraq

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Monday ordered the closure of unofficial border crossings in the country, according to state media INA. 

“Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi ordered the joint operations to close unofficial [border] crossings to halt smuggling and harming the national economy, and to protect local product,” Kadhimi was quoted as saying in a meeting held with institutions which are not attached to the ministries and commissions.

Kadhimi said the current government is transitional and aimed to reach early elections, adding that some people are trying to make obstacles for the elections.

“There are great challenges facing the country, and we are making efforts around the clock to overcome them and put the country on the right path,” Kadhimi said.
