SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces have detained a suspect involved in an attack on the headquarters of Taqaddum party, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi, in Anbar province, Iraqi media reported on Saturday.
The headquarters of Taqaddum party was attacked with a hand grenade in Hit district in Anbar governorate on Friday night, according to Iraqi media.
Al Sumaria TV cited a security source as saying that the security forces had detained “one of the people involved in targeting the headquarters in Taqaddum party”.
Headquarters of the Sunni parties have been attacked in Baghdad and Anbar provinces in the past months.
In January, explosions from a hand grenade hit the headquarters of Taqaddum party and Azm Party led by Sunni Muslim politician, Khamis al-Khanjar, in Baghdad.
Two guards of Taqaddum party were wounded in the attack.
Separately in Anbar, at least one rocket fell near the house of newly-elected parliament’s speaker on January 25.
The attacks came after Iraq’s federal court confirmed the re-election of Halbousi as parliament speaker.
Iraq’s parliament, newly elected after an October 10 general election in which the powerful Shia Muslim cleric Moqtada al-Sadr was the biggest winner, voted to reinstate Halbousi for his second term as speaker on Sunday.
Shia parties aligned with Iran and which rival Sadr, opposed the selection of Halbousi.
No group claimed responsibility for the attacks.
