SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Head of al-Fateh alliance Hadi al-Amiri on Friday condemned attacks on parties’ headquarters and the Green Zone in Baghdad.

“We strongly condemn the recent attacks on the Green Zone and the headquarters of political parties,” Amiri said in a statement.

“These acts are not justified, and the security service must carry out their duties in controlling and protecting citizens and their properties,” he added.

On Friday, an explosion from a hand grenade hit the headquarters of Taqaddum party led by Iraqi parliament speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi in Baghdad.

Two guards were wounded in the attack.

A similar incident hours later targeted the Baghdad headquarters of the Azm party of another Sunni Muslim politician, Khamis al-Khanjar, police said, but caused only light damage.

On Thursday, the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) was also attacked with an explosive device in Baghdad.

No group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Iraq’s parliament, newly elected after an October 10 general election in which the powerful Shia Muslim cleric Moqtada al-Sadr was the biggest winner, voted to reinstate Halbousi for his second term as speaker on Sunday.

Shia parties aligned with Iran and which rival Sadr, opposed the selection of Halbousi.

On Friday, a woman and a child were wounded in a rocket attack directed against the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.

One of the rockets fell in a school, according to the Iraqi security media cell.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
