SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq exported 101.58 million barrels of oil in December, generating more than $7 billion, the country’s oil ministry said.
A total of 98.57 million barrels were exported from oilfields in central and southern Iraq via the port of Basra, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
Around 2.7 million barrels were exported from Kirkuk oilfields via the Turkish port of Ceyhan last month, it added.
The country’s exports for December were at an average of 3.28 million barrels per day, the statement read.
The average price for oil was more than $72 per barrel, according to the ministry.
Last week, Iraq’s oil minister Ihsan Abdul Jabbar said the average oil export rate for January would be 3.3 million bpd.
In November, Abdul Jabbar said the government planned to increase oil exports to 3.4 million bpd in the first quarter of 2022.
For Iraq, OPEC’s second-largest producer, oil revenue represents at least 95% of its income. It has been hit by the collapse in demand and oil prices last year, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
