SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces thwarted an escape attempt of three “terrorists” from Taji prison in north of Baghdad, authorities said on Saturday.

In a statement, Baghdad Operations Command said the security forces opened fire at the “terrorists” as they were trying to escape from the prison.

“They opened fire when they saw them crossing the outer fence of the prison and did not comply with the orders of the force,” it added.

One of the “terrorists” was killed while the other two surrendered, it said, without giving further details.

The security forces have opened an investigation into the incident, Baghdad operations command stated.
