SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Syrian armed forces destroyed 10 of 12 missiles fired by Israeli F-16 fighter jets towards Syrian territory, RIA news agency cited a Russian senior military officer as saying on Wednesday.
According to the news agency, rear-admiral Vadim Kulit said the guided missiles were destroyed by Russian Buk-M2E and Pantsir-S complexes last night, according to Reuters.
He said six F-16 fighters launched the strikes on Syria’s Homs province from Lebanon’s airspace.
Britain-based Syrian Observation for Human Rights said the Israeli missiles struck an area near three villages in the west of Homs province, AFP reported.
The raid killed four people, including two civilians, the war monitor said.
Meanwhile, the official Syrian news agency SANA, citing a military official, said two civilians had been killed and seven others were wounded, including six soldiers.
Since civil war broke out in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes on Syrian territory, targeting government positions as well as allied Iran-backed forces and Hezbollah fighters.
