Iraq’s coronavirus death toll surpasses 11,000: health ministry

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq’s death toll from the novel coronavirus exceeded 11,000 on Monday, according to the ministry of health.

In a statement, the Iraqi ministry of health said it had recorded 51 new deaths in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 11,017.

The ministry added that 3,413 more people had been infected with COVID-19, while 2,995 more patients had recovered.

As many as 1,220 new cases were recorded in Baghdad, 524 in Erbil, 227 in Sulaimani, 151 in Kirkuk, 112 in Saladin, 109 in Nineveh and 103 in Diyala, the ministry further said.

The Iraqi ministry further said 98 other cases were in Maysan, 88 in Basra, 73 in Wasit, 72 in Anbar, 58 in Najaf, 38 in Diwaniyah, 32 in Dhi Qar, 27 in Karbala and 26 in Muthanna.

Iraq’s total number of coronavirus cases reached 478,701, of which 405,777 recovered.
