Vim Foundation announces Zhyan campaign aiming to eliminate violence against women

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Vim Foundation on Saturday announced a campaign to eliminate violence against women in the Kurdistan Region.

The foundation, which works to pinpoint society’s gaps, has launched Zhyan (life) campaign in Sulaimani city in an effort to eliminate violence against women in the Region.

The Sulaimani-based foundation aims to show the suffering of women who were killed under the pretext of honor, Vim said in a post to its Facebook page.

Director of Vim Foundation’s projects Shnyar Fayaq said the campaign includes four activities that show the life of women who were killed or were subjected to violence.

“We retell the story of 15 women through an exhibition. Seven of the women are victims and were killed under the pretext of honor and eight others were subjected to violence,” she told Esta Media Network.

A documentary will also be displayed during the campaign, arranged at the foundation’s headquarters in Sulaimani.

“The documentary is about the graveyard of the unknowns, where the government bury women who are killed under the pretext of honor,” she continued.

The campaign also includes a panel to discuss the murder of women under the justification of honor, she said. Another activity within the campaign is the greening of the graveyard.
