PUK spokesman says Mala Bakhtiyar has been “poisoned”; indications of more cases

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) spokesman said on Friday Mala Bakhtiyar, member of the High Political Council, has been “poisoned” and that he’s in a critical condition.

“Mala Bakhtiyar has been transferred to abroad to receive treatment and to ensure that he was poisoned,” PUK spokesman Amin Baba Sheikh said.

He further said the party was waiting for the results of the tests and legal investigations before deciding whether it was related to the internal issues of the PUK.

“We are waiting for the test results and for the law to confirm whether it was an attempt to kill by poisoning or not,” he added.

“There are other indications of poisoning several people in Sulaimani Asayish.”

He also rejected rumors that there were “armed confrontation” between the PUK leaders.

“Those are baseless and we live in a city that law is preserved and we all respect the law and security.”
