SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Four policemen were killed in two separate attacks carried out by Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Saladin and Diyala provinces on Wednesday, according to Iraqi media.
Al-Sumariya said the militants attacked Iraq’s federal police in Saladin province, killing two policemen and injuring another.
Clashes broke out between the Iraqi federal police and ISIS militants for around an hour, it reported.
Meanwhile, national Iraqi news agency said two other policemen were killed in an armed attack on a security point near Parwana village, west of Miqdadiyah.
ISIS militants have increased attacks against civilians and security forces in Diyala, Saladin and Kirkuk provinces.
On Tuesday, the militants attacked Hawasha village near Miqdadiyah district, killing 11 people.
Authorities said the attack targeted “defenseless civilians”.
In 2017 Baghdad announced victory over Islamic State (ISIS), and attacks in Iraqi cities have since become much rarer, although troops continue to fight ISIS sleeper cells in mountainous and desert areas.
The militants still mount deadly operations, mostly at night and in remote areas.
